Vara este în toi, dar o ceață neobișnuită pentru acest anotimp bate în ferestre. Harry este în camera sa, așteptând ca pe ace vizita profesorului Dumbledore în persoană. Una dintre ultimele ocazii în care l-a vazut pe director a fost când acesta purta un duel aprig cu Lordul Cap-de-Mort, iar lui Harry nu-i vine să creadă că domnul profesor Dumbledore chiar își va face apariția tocmai în casa familiei Dursley.
De ce îl vizitează acum? Ce este atât de important, încât nu poate aștepta până când Harry se va întoarce la Hogwarts peste câteva săptămâni?
Al șaselea an la Hogwarts al lui Harry a debutat deja într-un mod ciudat, dat fiind că Lumea Încuiată și cea Magică încep să se împletească...
Voldemort își face simțită prezența atât în Lumea Încuiaților cât și în cea a vrăjitorilor, iar Hogwarts nu mai este locul sigur ce a fost cândva. Harry suspectează că pericoulul zace chiar în castel, însă Dumbledore este preocupat de pregătirea lui pentru lupta finală ce știe că se apropie cu repeziciune. Cei doi lucrează să găsească cheia ce va deschide defensiva lui Voldemort, iar pentru aceasta, Dumbledore îl recrutează pe vechiul sau prieten și coleg, cu multe relații, Profesorul Horace Slughorn, despre care crede că deține informații cruciale. Între timp, elevii se află sub influența hormonilor adolescenței. Harry se simte tot mai atras de Ginny, însă la fel și Dean Thomas. Și Lavender Brown a decis că Ron este alesul ei, însă nu a contat pe bomboanele de ciocolată ale Romildei Vane. Și mai este și Hermione care fierbe de gelozie, dar care se străduiește să nu-și manifeste sentimentele. În timp ce dragostea înflorește, un elev stă deoparte. Este determinat să își lase amprenta, chiar daca este una întunecată. Dragostea este în aer, însă tragedia este aproape, iar Hogwartsul s-ar putea să nu mai fie la fel niciodată.
